"The Freedom of the Cross"

by Rev. Richard Green

Galatians 2:20

Sermon Notes from 11 November 2001

Note: This sermon was presented on Veterans Day.

Washington is a "power" city. It is a city of history. We have healthy sense of pride in our capital. We need to pray for our nation. We want God to bless the church in America. People turn to God in tough times.

There are monuments in our capital city. The old rugged cross is a monument. It is a demonstration of God's power and love. The cross is Victory over sin. Because of the cross, we are free to live as He intends us to live.

In Arlington cemetary there are rows of crosses. These remind us of the tremendous cost of freedom. The cost of the cross is the result of a war within us. Civil war. Natural man leans toward evil. But that war is over for many. The victory is won. We are set free. We should celebrate this victory as we gather as God's people. The victory is because of the Warrior, the Champion. He is the Author & Finisher of the faith.

I have been crucified - the power of sin has been broken in my life. I have been released. When God looks at me He sees Jesus. Our lives demonstrate the truth of our profession. Christ live in me.

The old has gone. The new is come. All the great men will dissapoint us, except Jesus. We must live by faith. We must work at developing Godly character. Memorize scripture. Study God's Word. The work never ends. We must continue to grow. Not my will but thine be done. God has the answers to all questions.

We exercise faith in many things. We live by faith in God. I will not die any second before God intends. Don't worry about tomorrow. Trust God. We can carry out God's will. He changes us. The power of God dwells in us.

He did this while I was yet a sinner. We have been set free. Free to live for Christ.

On this Veteran's day, let us think of the greatest Veteran of all. Christ. The cross reminds us of this. It is finished.
