The graveside committal service will take place following the memorial service at the Plum Creek Cemetery. After the committal service, a dinner will be served at the Hillcrest Alliance Church. All are invited to participate.

On behalf of our entire family, we thank you for attending this memorial service that commemorates the life of our father. Your presence today is evidence of your support and for that we are very grateful.

We are eternally grateful to our provident God who, in his wisdom and mercy, was pleased to not allow our father to suffer or endure pain during his short battle with cancer. Certainly, he will be sorely missed, but we thank God that our dad is now in His presence forever and ever, amen.

Rev. James S. Dittmar was born on May 1, 1915 in Williamsport, son of Oliver and Jennie Dittmar. He graduated from Williamsport High School in 1933 and from Nyack College in 1939. He was the retired pastor from the Hillcrest Alliance Church. Rev. Dittmar formerly pastored churches in Coley, Marysvile, New Wilmington, Clymer, McKees Rocks, and South Fork, all in Pennsylvania. After retiring from Hillcrest Alliance Church in 1983, he served as the interim pastor at Meridian Alliance Church, Butler, PA and the Alliance Church in Trees Mills, PA from 1985 to 1995.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, in 1987. Surviving are three sons, Samuel M. of Cleveland, Ohio; James K. and daughter-in-law Rebecca of New Brighton, PA; and John N. and daughter-in-law Ann of Apollo, PA and their children Sarah and Benjamin.

Rev. Dittmar was a resident of the Logan House Assisted Care Facility in New Kensington following cancer surgery in early September, 2000. He was admitted to the Allegheny Valley Hospital on Tuesday, October 31, and died peacefully in his sleep at 5:00 a.m. on November 4, 2000.
